What 4E / 4C means
When a cycle starts, the machine opens its inlet valve and expects the water level to reach a set point within a few minutes. If it doesn't, the control board stops the cycle and shows 4E or 4C. Some models show 4C2 when the incoming water is too hot, for example when the hose is connected to a hot tap.
Step-by-step checks
- Is the water tap open? The valve behind the machine is sometimes closed by plumbers or cleaners.
- Is there water pressure? Check a nearby tap. Building tank cleaning or low pressure on upper floors can cause 4E.
- Check the inlet hose. Make sure it isn't kinked behind the machine.
- Clean the inlet filter. Turn off the tap, unscrew the hose from the back of the machine and remove the small mesh filter with pliers. Rinse away sand and scale, refit and tighten.
- Check the hot / cold connection. The machine should be connected to cold water. A hot connection can trigger 4C2.
- Restart the cycle. If water flows in and the code clears, you're done.
Why 4E is common in Dubai
Water in many buildings passes through rooftop tanks and long pipe runs. Fine sand and scale from tanks and pipes collect in the mesh filter at the machine's inlet. Over months the filter slowly blocks, water flow drops, and the machine eventually times out with 4E. Cleaning the inlet filter every few months prevents most of these errors.
When it's a part failure
| Symptom | Likely part |
|---|---|
| Tap open, filter clean, no water enters | Inlet valve coil failed |
| Water enters slowly with a buzzing sound | Inlet valve partly blocked or weak |
| Water fills but 4E still appears | Pressure sensor or its hose |
| Water keeps filling and won't stop | Inlet valve stuck open (switch off the tap) |
Our technician tests the inlet valve and pressure sensor. The inspection is AED 75, and new parts carry a 1-year warranty. See all Samsung codes on our Samsung repair page.
